It’s been days since Quintus put up his magic barrier to protect him from the wolves. His magic was dissipating faster than he expected.
“Quin! You will not escape this time. I told you if I ever saw you come back here, I’d kill you!” The wolfman growled.
“What’re you waiting on Sinto? I’m still breathing!” Quintus shouted back.
Sinto entered a crazed state and attacked the barrier with relentless might. Quintus, barrier started to give in to Sinto’s attacks. His breathing picked up when his magic wall began to crave in. Picking up his staff, he used a little magic to make it as sharp as possible.
“No one is to touch him but me!” Sinto shouted as he pierced the barrier.
Quintus steadied his breathing and stood firm as the hulking Sinto inched towards him.
“Any last words?” Sinto asked, exposing his fangs.
“I don’t plan on dying here,” Quintus responded.
As soon as the words left Quintus’s mouth, he was sent flying towards the back of the cave walls. Nearly being knocked unconscious, he struggled to stand back up. Quintus had never felt this frail before, he always had his magic to protect him from harm. The pain activated something he had never experienced, his survival instinct. Sinto charged at him again, but this time Quintus could see his movements. He ducked when Sinto swung at him and dug his teeth into the wolf’s leg. Sinto howled in pain, grabbed Quintus’s head, and bashed it into the ground with tremendous force. To counteract going unconscious, Quintus bit his tongue as hard as possible, causing his mouth to gush with blood. It sent a shock throughout his body and energized him.
“You bit your own tongue?” Sinto asked curiously, raising Quintus up to his eye level.
Instead of replying, Quintus spits blood in Sinto’s face and dug his staff into the beast’s chest. Blood dripping from his face, Quintus watched as Sinto staggered back towards his pack in pain. Quintus let out a loud warcry to the other beast who was watching.
“I have a newfound respect for you, Quintus.” he laughed as he removed the staff from his chest. “Such respect, that I won’t kill you, but I will still show you that I could have at any moment.”
A killing aura started to vibrate from Sinto, and in a blink of an eye, he was in Quintus’s face, his claws were dug into the wall.
“You’re free to go, no one will harm you,” Sinto assured as he removed his claws from the wall.
Quintus hadn’t registered how Sinto moved so fast, but his body started to relax once he realized the fight was over.
“Next time I see you here, maybe we’ll be friends.” Sinto laughed as he walked away.
