Savior

Nyla and Jamar jumped around Nyla’s cave in high spirits, singing, and dancing while making their favorite soup. They would stir and taste every few steps until a tremor almost knocked the pot from the fire, but Nyla used a simple spell to stop it from spilling over.

“Ny Ny!! You have to teach me how to do that too!” Jamar prompted Nyla as he held his hands on his face in amazement.

“You know If I teach you this, they may also label you an outcast, and force you out of the village. We can’t have that now can we?” Nyla stressed as she pointed her finger.

“Those people in the village don’t know what they are talking about. There is nothing wrong with you knowing magic! You don’t hurt anyone, and you even make my favorite soup.” Jamar pouted.

“So innocent you are, don’t ever let the world take that from you.” She rubbed his head.

“I will be a mage like you one day…” he began, but another tremor caused him to lose his balance.

Nyla snapped her finger, and Jamar floated and landed very gently back on the ground.

“Thanks!, I’m going to go see what all the commotion is about, and check on my mom I’ll be right back Nyla. Finish the soup.” Jamar didn’t wait for a response as he ran out of the cave.

After Nyla finished cooking her soup, she made two bowls of it. One for her, and the other for Jamar. After nearly half an hour went by she began to worry about Jamar as it wasn’t like him to miss out on the soup, she would always make for him.

“Maybe I’ll check on him just this once,” Nyla said to herself as she began to worry more.

Closing her eyes, while making quick hand movements, she called upon a spell that would give her sight through Jamar’s eyes. She could see that he was sitting on a ground with a book that Nyla knew he had stolen from her to practice magic spells. She gave a smile as she saw him look over her spells, but her smile quickly faded when Jamar looked up, and a dragon was staring down Jamar, and the villagers right before it dashed at Jamar. Nyla eyes widened as she dispelled her spell, and summoned her staff. Without hesitation, Nyla garnered a spell to teleport to Jamar’s location. As she flashed in, she looked around and didn’t see Jamar, but she did find her book on the ground. Nyla looked up assuming the dragon had something to do with his disappearance. She could feel the crowd gawking at her as she waved a spell to get the attention of the dragon.
The dragon averted his attention from the mountain as he gazed at Nyla.

“Another magic waiver?” The dragon said in a deep voice as he squinted at Nyla.

“I don’t want any trouble! I just want the boy.” Nyla responded

The dragon smirked showing his teeth. “Well, take him.” the dragon lifted up, revealing an unconscious Jamar.

“What did you do to him?” Nyla asked as her demeanor completely changed.

The dragon sat and stared at Nyla, “Your magic is far more powerful than the boy’s.” He smiled.

The crowd erupted in an uproar at the dragons comment.

“Take the witch!”

“I knew she brought the dragon!”

“It’s all her fault. Take her for the boy!”

A dragon of malice… Nyla thought to herself as she ignored the crowd who resorted to throwing things.

“Just give me the boy, and leave!” Nyla gave one last warning.

“Not before I devour your little village!”

“Have it your way!” Nyla said as she tapped her staff on the ground.

Nyla held her staff with both hands as she chanted words while the dragon flew at Nyla with its claws drawn. As the dragon got closer, Nyla finished her spell casting a shield around the whole village. The dragon rammed the shield with tremendous force, but the shield didn’t falter. It summoned a massive flame right after suffocating the shield. Although they weren’t actually being hurt, the village could feel the heat intensifying. Nyla knew she had to do something quickly to get the village out of harm’s way. She walked out of the shield, throwing her staff towards the dragon, but it moved out of the way.

“You missed!” The dragon grinned from ear to ear showing its teeth.

“I wasn’t aiming for you.” Nyla pointed to her staff.

The dragon turned around to see what Nyla was pointed at, but could only see her staff stuck in the mountain next to Jamar which caused him some confusion.

“Transference!” Nyla yelled as she waved her hands around.

Instantly, Nyla switched positions with her staff and appeared next to Jamar.

“I got ya, kid.” Nyla grabbed him.

She immediately switched spots with her staff again and put Jamar safely inside of the shield.

“Now it’s just you and me…” she stated angrily. “I’ll end this.”

Nyla stared the dragon down as her eyes began to emit static energy, and her clenched hands started to glow. The dragon charged at her again with fire spewing from his mouth. She waved her hand towards the dragon knocking it back towards the mountain. Nyla followed up by leaping towards the mountain and casting a binding spell bounding the dragon to the mountain.

“With this, I lay you to rest upon the mountain you so desperately craved,” Nyla said as she floated in front of the dragon.

Nyla chanted, casting a spell petrifying the dragon turning it into stone on the mountain thus ending the battle. After she finished the battle, she cast a spell healing Jamar and waking him. Before he could say anything to her, she teleported herself back to the cave and away from the angry crowd.

“You folks are welcome.” Nyla threw her hands up as she walked in her cave.

Author Notes: I know its been a long time since I’ve posted. I have no excuses on why I haven’t but I’m trying to get back into the habit of writing.

This story was interesting to write… coming back into the thousand word limit on flash fiction. I went over the limit at least seven times, but I trimmed out some of it and got it down to one thousand words. I hope you guys like it, and if not let me know what kind of flash fiction you want to read or how I can make it better.
Until next time!!!
