Ari pushed her brother Thomas on the swing at the park. Filling his day with joy and laughter.
“Higher, Higher!” Thomas yelled as Ari tried to push him higher.
“Is that high enough?” Ari asked.
Thomas didn’t answer as he swung back and forth, enjoying the swing.
“Okay, my arms are getting a little tired now. Let’s take a break.” Suggested Ari.
“Okay, Okay.” Acknowledged Thomas as he jumped from the swing at its highest point.
Ari gasped at the sight of Thomas jumping and instinctually clinched her fist, summoning her abilities to ease Thomas fall.
“Be careful!” Ari demanded.
“Don’t worry, Ari, I know you wouldn’t let anything happen to me.” Thomas chortled in joy.
Ari let out a sigh of relief. “Although that may be true, you can’t just go off risking your health and almost giving me heart attacks.”
“I’m sorry I’ll be safer.” Thomas declared
Ari gave Thomas a big hug and shooed him off to continue playing at the park while she sat and watched. She watched Thomas walk up one of the slide ladders and slide down the ramp.
“Hey, Ari! Dads here!” Burst Thomas as he ran to his father.
“No Thomas stay right there!” Commanded Ari.
Thomas stopped immediately and looked back between Ari and their father with fear in his eyes. Ari stood up and ran towards Thomas but was stopped by a tall, slim pale man with slicked-back hair in a black suit and sunglasses.
“Whoa, Whoa, Whoa. Long-time Ari, you’re a tough woman to find these days.” The man exasperated.
“Please Logan, not here. Just let my brother go, and I’ll do anything you ask. I’ll go peacefully just let my brother go.” Ari pleaded.
“Well, it’s not my decision to make, and as I see it your brother will be perfectly fine with his father, and if you did try something just remember you’re surrounded and we’re taking you in regardless.” Logan sassed.
Ari looked at her father. “You would help them track me while I have Thomas? That’s a new low even for you old man.”
“You are an unregistered illegal magic waiver, and must undergo the correct process just like anyone else in your position.” Her father growled.
“Fine, as long as this keeps Thomas safe I’ll do the whole process.” She glared at her father and Logan. “Go with father Thomas.”
“But I want to stay with you, Ari.” Thomas fretted.
“No, but’s Thomas just go.” Ari countered.
Thomas looked back at Ari saddened and decided to give Ari a hug before he went to his father. Thomas ran towards Ari with his arms out. He fell as a loud shot went off, sending Thomas falling to the ground. Shock fell upon everyone’s face as Thomas laid there on the ground, and for a moment, it felt as if time stood still for everyone. Ari stood there with her head down, clenching her fist in disbelief as her brother laid there motionless.
“Ceasefire! Ceasefire! Stand down! Who fired that shot?” Logan broke the silence as he looked down at his watch and shouted to de-escalate the situation.
Logan walked towards the unmoving Ari with his hands up. “Listen what happened to your brother was an accident I’m going to need you to stay calm.” When he got close to Ari, she looked up with her eyes glowing green.
“Shit! All units move in now!” He shouted as he moved quickly to draw the magic sealer gun from within his suit.
Ari waved her hand shooting green energy at Logan the moment he moved for his gun, making him jump out the way rolling on the ground. She immediately tried running to her brother afterward but was cut off by the horde of people running towards her firing off shots. Ari cast a spell summoning a wall and stood behind it blocking shots as she pushed towards her brother. As she got within inches of her brother, someone threw a pulse bomb at her location. Ari watched as the bomb landed close to her brother and quickly waved a spell to surround her brother’s body in a protective shield. Doing so caused her to take the brunt of the damage from the bomb, sending her flying through the air.
“So that’s how you want to play it.” Ari fumed. “Well, the gloves are off now.”
Ari picked herself up from the ground wiping the blood from her face. She mumbled words quickly summoning a ball of magic in front of her. She ran towards her brother at full speed, and anyone who got remotely close to her was cut down by the ball of magic defending her. This time she finally reached her brother and held his lifeless body in her arms. She could feel the tears falling from her face as anger consumed every fiber of her being. She chanted, causing ancient symbols to appear. As she continued chanting the symbols entered her brother’s body one by one until they all disappeared. When she stopped, Thomas body gasped with a deathly air around it. Thomas then stood and hovered over Ari, staring down at her with ghastly green eyes as if he was waiting on her commands. Ari looked up at Thomas emotionless.
“Kill them all…”
