Jimmy sat on his recliner, watching his favorite tv show, The Rascals. He laughed at the show while knocking back beer after beer. A harsh knock on the door drew his attention from the television.
“Go away!” He shouted.
The knocks came again, bolder, louder, causing Jimmy to toss one of his beer bottles at the door.
“I said go away damn it! Jimmy squawked
Jimmy violently fell out of his chair when he heard the third knock came, more vicious than the last two.
“What the hell do you want? Can’t you hear, you fucking asshole!?” Jimmy screamed as he yanked the door open. “I’m watching the Rascals, go away!” He continued and proceeded to slam the door.
Before the door closed, the man stuck his foot in the doorway and stopped it.
“Hi Mr. Turner, I’m Detective Murks. I’m here in regards to our investigation about the murder of Lindsey Taylor twenty-seven years ago.” Murks claimed.
Sweat suddenly fell from Jimmy’s forehead as he began to sober up and slowly reopen the door.
“That case was closed, what questions do you have for me now?” Jimmy wondered.
“That’s where you’re wrong, Mr. Turner, the case wasn’t closed, it just went cold. Now, do you mind if I come in and ask you a few questions?”
“Yes, I do mind.” Jimmy got defensive, walking outside and shutting the door behind him. “All this good air out here.” He inhaled. “ Feel free to ask away.”
“We could do this the nice way, or the way where I call a judge and get a warrant to enter your house in regards to the case. Then, my cop friends and I can come in and search the house, for a few days, leaving you with nowhere to stay for those few days.” Murks avowed.
Jimmy took a deep breath and gritted his teeth as he stared Murks down. “Why don’t you come on in Detective.” Jimmy chided as he opened the door.
“How kind of you to allow me to enter.” Murks gibed as he entered.
“Ask your questions, Detective.”
“On the day of Lindsey Taylor’s murder, you said you were at home watching television, is that correct?”
“If that’s what the report says,” Jimmy answered while he tapped his foot.
“Who was Lindsey to you?” Murks asked while pulling out a pen and notepad.
“She was whatever the report says. If you don’t have any new questions to ask, then please leave.”
“We have a new witness, who says they were there during the murder. Are you sure you want to stick to the ‘You were at home watching television’ story or is there something you want to admit to me?”
Murks turned his attention to a bracelet, dawned over the fireplace while waiting on an answer from Jimmy.
“What witness!”
Jimmy grabbed the detectives shoulder and swung him around. Pain shot through his body as he made eye contact with Murks. Blood gradually made its way out of Jimmy’s mouth as he began coughing. Jimmy tried to make sense of what was happening as his body went into shock. Looking down, he could see Murks had stabbed him in his side, piercing his lungs.
“W-h-a-t… ar..”
Jimmy choked on his words as Murks began viciously stabbing him.
“She!… Was!… My!… Mother!” Murks raged.
Stabbing Jimmy, until both their bodies fell to the ground.
“I was the witness,” Murks muttered near Jimmy’s ear.
