Hanging out with his friends, Mikhal and the others went to the local coffee shop to talk about the homework assignment.
“Man, Ms. Clark always gives us days worth of homework on the weekend, so we can’t just enjoy it,” Mikhal complained.
“Yeah, I can’t stand it either. The quicker we work together, the faster we can knock this out and get the real fun started.” Jason responded.
“You’re right, let’s just get it out of the way.” Mikhal agreed.
“Alright, I’m going to grab everyone some coffee. Y’all get the homework started.” Jason said, walking away.
“Just like him to walk away when the work has to happen.” Jessie chimed in with a chuckle.
“Let’s just get it done, guys,” Mikhal.
The group sat down at a table in the corner and unpacked their bags. Moments later, Jason came back with drinks for the group and started to walk off when a flash of light beamed through all of the cafe windows.
“What the hell was that,” Mikhal mumbled through his hand.
“I can’t see! My eyes!” A burst of screams shortly followed.
Mikhal placed his hand on his friend’s shoulder, “Open your eyes, what’s wrong?” he asked.
“They burn, I have to keep them closed,” Jessie responded.
Mikhal grabbed a bottle of water and poured it on his friend’s eyes, but it didn’t help at all. The people in the cafe were still screaming and running into each other. Mikhal quickly called 911, but no one answered. He looked out the window, and to his surprise, everyone was going crazy. He tried to call his parents next, and again no one answered. Mom… Dad… what was that flash of light, he thought. Moments later, he finally got some of the people in the cafe to calm down so they could try and figure out what happened.
“Okay, how do your eyes feel?” Mikhal asked.
“They don’t burn anymore, but I can’t open them. I smell everything though, I can smell all of the coffee that is behind the counter, and there’s a terrible smell getting closer to the cafe. Do you see anything outside?” Jessie wondered.
Mikhal looked out the window, and the creature he saw couldn’t be explained as it walked through the streets, killing anything it saw. Trailing behind it, were creatures who seemed to be commanding it. He almost screamed at the sight but quickly covered his mouth.
“The smell is getting worst, oh my… how do you not smell that!” Jessie cringed.
Mikhal hastily covered Jessie’s mouth. “Quiet, I th–ink we’re b-e-ing, invaded…”
