Billy woke up at the sound of his alarm, he yawned before slapping the alarm to turn it off. Shortly after, he slid into his work boots and headed out to the farm to check on his animals. When Billy arrived, he checked on his chickens to see if there were any eggs. What he found was a peculiar, colorful egg.
“Well, this is different,” Billy said as he held the egg up towards the sunlight. “Guess I’ll give this one to Alex, he likes to collect odd things.”
Billy held the egg and walked it back over to the house where his wife and child were.
“Hey Alex! I got something for you! Come on down and see what it is.” Billy yelled up the stairs.
“What’s all the fuss about, babe?” Emily asked.
“I found something on the farm, I’m going to give it to Alex,” he replied.
“Oh? What is it?” Emily inquired.
“It’s this colorful egg, never seen one like it before,” he admitted.
Emily’s eyes lit up like a Christmas tree when she saw the egg. “I hope he doesn’t crack it, you know our son isn’t the most balanced person in the world.”
They both shared a laugh as Alex walked down the steps.
“What’s funny?” Alex asked.
“Nothing, me and your mom were just talking about some stuff from high school.” Billy lied.
“Okay, what did you have for me?” Alex asked.
“I’ll tell you, but you have to close your eyes,” said Billy.
Alex closed his eyes, and Billy pulled the egg from behind his back.
“Now, open your eyes,” Billy grinned.
Alex opened his eyes, astonished by what his father held in his hand.
“Where did you get this? I’ve never seen an egg like this before.” He admitted.
“Neither have I, but I can’t reveal my secret. If you keep up your good grades in school, there will be a lot more where that came from.” Billy declared as he handed over the egg.
“Okay, I have to look this up to see what kind of egg this is.” Alex chirped, turning back towards the stairs.
As Alex took a step up the stairs, the egg wiggled and slide out of his hand. He tried to catch it, but couldn’t stop it from falling down the stairs.
“Oh no!” yelled Alex.
Billy tried to grab it before it hit the floor, but his reflexes were too slow. They all watched as the egg collided with the floor and cracked. A deadly silence overtook them as they all stared at the egg. It wiggled and broke apart until the shell was no more. They couldn’t believe what was right before their eyes.
“Dragon!” Alex yelled.
