Here is a spoken word I wrote a while back, I call it “Words” let me know what you all think.
Another day comes when the words “I can’t breathe” falls upon deaf ears. When the screams of “He’s dying” are met with words of “Get back” and the shaking of pepper spray. In a country built on the words “United we stand,” I don’t think we’ve ever stood at all. You use words like “That doesn’t exist, you’re making this up” but yet I just heard George Floyd call out for his “Ma” while his body gasped for air, Then you’ll say “most cops are good, that’s a one-time thing,” well let me go down my list, and show you “one time’s” too many. Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Sandra Bland, Freddie Gray, Philando Castile, Alton Sterling, and trust me, the list goes on. But let me guess, those are just a few of “one time’s” yall choose to forget.
So excuse my people if we act out, I guess it’s never the “right time,” but our words don’t go far. It takes someone’s life to even get your attention. So before this goes away, I hope I have your attention. “My people are suffering, what will it take for you to listen?”
If you write Spoken Word, post a link in the comments below so I can check it out.
